CTC Ed Tech News January 9, 2017

Dear Colleagues,

It looks like the new UA Learn (one Blackboard for all University of Alaska hosted in Fairbanks) is working fine.

Course Copy

All of your 2016 courses are in UA Learn.  You can course copy content from 2016 courses to your 2017 courses.  If you need content from an older course, it's in bbarchive and you will need to do an export/import.

Professional Development

The UAA Teaching Academy runs Tuesday January 10 - Thursday January 12. Please go to their website to register for sessions that interest you. Some sessions are offered online and evening sessions have been scheduled for the convenience of adjunct faculty.

CTC Open Lab for Faculty

I will host an open lab at UC 145 on Friday January 13 from 1- 3 pm. Feel free to drop in and work on your course for spring. I'll be available to answer questions.  There are computers in the classroom - or bring your own laptop.

Detours

Now's a good time to think about what to do when your class can't meet due to weather or technology issue. Planning now means that you are prepared for weather or technology-related class cancellations.

Face to face class:  I recommend that you have a communication plan if class is cancelled due to weather. Be prepared to create an alternative activity in Blackboard or an assignment/activity you can email to your students.

Online class:  I recommend that you collect contact information from your students at the start of the semester.  Be prepared to send out revised activities if Blackboard is down. Here are some tips and strategies if you are forced to take a digital detour from your planned teaching.

Towards a "Positive U"

Here are some good thoughts from Faculty Focus on setting the tone for your class to ensure student success

Thank you,
