CTC Ed Tech News August 15, 2016

Wow, it's that time already.  We're getting back to the university.  Here is some information to get you back in the groove.

Course Copy in Blackboard Learn

We have two instances of Blackboard Learn at UAA.  All 2016 courses are in classes.uaa.alaska.edu. 2015 courses and earlier are in bbarchive.uaa.alaska.edu. You can use course copy to load content from your spring 2016 course shell to fall 2016 course shell. To get content from 2015 and earlier courses, you'll need to export from the course in bbarchive.uaa.alaska.edu and import to classes.uaa.alaska.edu. Here's an edutip (that I wrote!) that explains the process.

Secure Online Test Proctoring

UAA will be piloting Software Secure's Remote Proctor Now this fall, with rollout in spring 2017. Remote Proctor Now does not require students to commute to approved physical proctoring centers, but instead, allow students to take assessments anywhere that has a reliable internet connection and a web camera with the flexibility of 24/7. Remote Proctor Now will be at the EduPass conference all three days and doing a demo on Tuesday, August 23 at 12:30 in SMH 107 (Math Emporium). If you are interesting in piloting in a course, (there are just 1-2 openings left) please contact Keith Berggren at eLearning and Distance Education.

Updated Academic Calendar

UAA has a slightly revised academic calendar this year. Of interest is that the Labor Day holiday for students is only one day and that the Thanksgiving holiday for students is only Thursday and Friday. That's right... the day after Labor Day and the day before Thanksgiving are regular class days. See the registrar's dates and deadlines calendar  (click on FALL 2016 button).
