Musing about the draft National Educational Technology Plan

I downloaded the executive summary of the National Education Technology Plan 2010 and read it and the comments on the website. I like a lot of it. I wanted more about learning collaboration as an essential 21st century skill. I wanted more about teacher collaboration and teacher professional learning.

Most technology initiatives have fallen short of their goals because not enough attention is paid to helping teachers collectively change and develop their practice to incorporate technology in their teaching. How can we create the conditions for teachers to learn these new technologies together? How can we leverage technology to develop a culture of collaboration in schools?

Collaboration is a 21st century skill. If teachers are given the chance to develop, model, and teach this skill in school, the changes in schools and practice will be amazing.

Blogging for 4 years?

I updated my blog template today so I could add the "Following" gadget. My first blog post was in January 2006, so I have had this account for four years! Granted, I haven't written much, but I do come back every now and then.

So, with this updated template, I can more easily add gadgets to my blog page. I remember editing the html code to add the blog links several years ago. Now, it's a form.

We are going into blogs and rss in class on Tuesday... I am ready!
